Tim Keller (Influences #2)

Without a doubt one of the writers who has significantly inspired the formation of BICCI  was Tim Keller, the founding pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City.

In his 2010 book “Generous Justice”  he postulates that whilst most evangelical Christians know that Jesus came to bring forgiveness and grace, it is less well known that the Bible teaches that “ a true experience of the grace of Jesus Christ inevitably motivates a man or woman to seek justice in the world

Keller argues that many evangelicals approach the concept of “doing justice” warily because it was the hallmark of the social gospel movement but “the Bible is a book that is devoted to justice in the world from first to last. And the Bible gives us not just a naked call to care about justice, but gives us everything we need – motivation, guidance, inner joy and power – to live a just life”

The challenge we at BICCI faced was this. How can we turn these tremendous truths into action and make a difference to this place & the people we live among.
